Osteopathy for adults

Osteopathy takes a holistic view of health, so we will evaluate your presenting problem in the context of other factors in your life such as working patterns, diet and exercise, and sleep. An osteopathic case history includes a review of these as well as past accidents and illnesses, so that we look at your presenting issue in relation to all of these.

I will look carefully at the factors affecting your wellbeing. I will assess how well you breathe and watch you make some simple movements to assess your problem. Together, we will look together at how to help you back to good health.

Common issues that people seek osteopathic help for are:

  • Body aches and pains e.g. neck, shoulders and back, or limbs

  • Headache and migraine prevention

  • Joint problems eg shoulder, elbow and wrist & hand; hip, knee, ankle and foot

  • Nerve pain eg sciatica

  • Sports injuries

Other areas of osteopathic practice include

  • Circulatory problems

  • Muscle spasms and cramps

  • Digestive problems

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Inability to relax

  • Rheumatic problems

Incidentally “cranial osteopathy” is not simply for the head. The term actually describes a family of gentle techniques that are suitable for the whole body, and which address anatomy and physiology in combination.

Please note that treatments may be tiring. I advise that you shouldn’t do any vigorous exercise for 48 hours after your appointment.

A typical treatment plan for an acute problem is 2-4 appointments. More chronic problems may involve longer periods with treatment spaced over weeks or months.
